Welcome to the Journey

Thank you for visiting my author home page! I’m Ruth D. Stallard, a writer, adventurer, and storyteller who is passionate about exploring creation and the transformative power of solo travel.

Here, you’ll find insights into my journey—both the physical paths I’ve walked across Patagonia’s rugged landscapes and the emotional trails that have led to reclaiming my voice and rekindling joy. My memoir, Travelling into the Patagonian Wind: A Solo Journey to Joy—The Beginning captures the essence of these adventures and the lessons learned along the way.

Whether you’re curious about solo travel, drawn to the allure of South America, or searching for inspiration to embrace your own journey of self-discovery, this is a space for you. Explore my blog, discover upcoming events, and connect with the stories that have shaped my path.

A Word From The Author

When wonder has faded and we believe life is a nasty business, we may consider quitting early or dropping out of the game. But wait! This book will teach you how to see the world from the grand perspective first. Traveling into the Patagonian Wind: A  Solo Journey to Joy illustrates how to grow a fresh awareness of the joys and delights of life you lost somewhere between childhood and today. Travel is the agency of this metamorphosis. A journey through a foreign country enlightens and refocuses us. Traveling allows the mysteries, the awes, and the beauties to break through the shells our small lives construct around us. Then we can see the wondrous and the delightful. Feeling and expressing joy is foundational to a healthy life. Wonder and joy intersect when we re-orient our lives to see the world from a larger scale. When we take ourselves to a place far from our environs, where we can look up to see life from the grand perspective, the big story begins to define our small story. Standing in a place of wonder, vast beyond our comprehension, allows us to take the focus off the circumstances that mire us in the pain and the minutia of our daily lives. Joy fills our souls and our lives become more meaningful. Life becomes more than fantastic. When we treasure and ponder the majesty of creation in our hearts, whether embodied by a human or slab of granite, we begin to live on the margin of the impossible. We transcend to a place bigger than our little lives. We find renewed reasons to cling to our tiny scrap of existence with tenacity. The sense of impossibilities sharpens our senses to what we are doing and where we are going. Travel is the agency that lifts us from the tangle of our flawed lives to enable us to see the vast, immense beauty of the world we live in and that changes our lives.

What Readers Are Saying

Discover how Travelling into the Patagonian Wind has inspired, uplifted, and connected with other readers. These reviews showcase the transformative power of this memoir.

Ruth is a writer with a special talent for misdirecting a reader’s attention. She captures you with absorbing details about her journey through the Andes, the South American people she meets and the towns she visits. Then, slowly you realize that’s not where you are: you’re walking with her on an exploration of her soul.

That’s real writing … real storytelling … real revealing.

I’ll never look at the Patagonia through the same glasses again.

I’ll pass the book along to a friend who wants to read it.  I have given her a very positive account which is certainly the way I feel about your magnificent outpouring.  Congratulations!

May much success follow you with Volume 2.

We were delighted to have attended your book launch, me especially! I felt a bit starstruck… Usually you’re  our neighbour, but now you’re: PUBLISHED AUTHOR! I just think it’s all so cool and I am simultaneously over the moon for you and green with envy lol.

I have never been a big fan of reading biographies; I just don’t find celebrities or the like relatable. But, as I work my way through your book, I keep saying to George “Everyone should write a memoir! Everyone!” Seemingly ordinary people live such extraordinary lives but so few put pen to paper and let us in. Page after page I am fascinated! And inspired! I have always dreamed of someday writing a book, but the more I read your story, the more I feel inclined to start planning our next big adventure! Perhaps I’ll do a little more living before tackling a memoir of my own lol.
